Reflection Journal (Week 10)

Good Day Everyone. Today, I am back here again on my Technology and Maths Education Blog to share my this week teaching and leaning process that takes place in Technology and Mathematics Education class. Now, my friends and I are currently in our Week 10 and we are almost towards the end of our current semester. 

In this week class, our lecturer taught us Chapter 12 which was entitled 'Distance Education'. 

In this specific chapter , we learned in detail about 'The Effects of Distance Education'. Firstly, we learned in detail regarding the effects of distance education to the educators and the respective effects are as follows:

1. Offering flexible licencing renewal and/or professional development.

2. Causing rethinking of the nature of instruction.

3. Providing environment where teaching and learning no longer bound by traditional classroom walls.

Besides that, we also learned in detail regarding the effects of distance education towards the education system and the respective effects are as follows:

1. Changing courses available in higher education.

2. Encouraging creation of state wide virtual high school programs.

3. Supporting district-wide courses in virtual classrooms.

4. Enabling courses to be offered that might not due to low enrollments.

5. Providing instruction to home-bound students. 

Furthermore, we also learned in detail regarding 'Video Conferencing' especially on the advantages of using it for the education purposes and the advantages are as below:

1. Compressed video conferencing lets people interact via broadband phone lines.

2. Creates a virtual space where students and teachers can interact virtually face-to-face.

3. District-wide systems connect students in schools in interactive video classrooms.

       After that, we also learned about 'Internet Classrooms' and 'Online Classrooms' in detail which emphasizes on how to use the internet in the classrooms when teaching the students in schools. Than, we were given a break of 10 minutes in order to recall back on what we have learned earlier and have some rest at the same time. 

Lastly, before the class end, were also learned about the ' Issues In Distance Education'.

The Issues in Distance Education are analyzed in terms of following aspects:

1. Learning Management Systems.

2. Teacher and Student Readiness.

3. Preparation and Classroom Management Time.

4. Copyright Critical Issues for Teachers.

5. Reinventing the Classroom. 

In terms of my assignment progress:

- I am doing my weekly reflection journals without any problem and confusion.

       - I did not face any major difficulties when doing my assignment.

- However, I just have problem in updating my Blog from time to time due lack of time.

As a conclusion, me and my friends were able to gain some knowledge on 'Distance Education' especially on the issues of implementing it in the education field. This is all from me for this week. Reflection Journal (Week 9)

Good Day Everyone. I am back again today to share this week teaching and learning process that takes place in our Technology and Maths Education class. We are in our Week 9 currently. 

Today, our lecturer started or began the class by explaining to us on Chapter 11 which is about 'Audiovisual Technologies'. 

He explained to us about the 'Visual Design Basis' which is one of the subtopic of this chapter.
Visual design includes visual, text, and effective elements as follows:

• Visual - Graphics, symbols, real objects, and organizational elements.

• Text - Aspects of text including fonts, spacing, color, and sizes.

  • Effective elements - Visual components that can elicit responses from viewers.

After that, we also learned in detail about examples of 'Non-Projected Visuals' which are as follows:

*Bulletin Boards – Easy to change platform for graphic elements.

*Flip Charts – Great for impromptu illustrations- can easily save images by tearing off pages.

*Chalk/Whiteboards – Common and easy way display text and images (Disadvantage: Must Erase).

Next, we also learned about ' Sources of Visual Communication' which are as follows:

Real objects – Objects that can be brought into class and used as a visual aid.

Models – Representations of real objects or concepts.

Exhibits – Displays or dioramas that illustrate instructional content.

Print materials – Books, worksheets, posters, charts, etc.

Graphics and photographs – Pictorial images to illustrate, clarify, and add interest. 

Than, we were given a break for 10 minutes in order for us to rest our mind and brainstorm and understand what we had learned so far in the class. 

After the break, he continued teaching us on 'The Steps Involve In Implementing Video' and the respective steps are as follows:
1. Use video's strengths to make compelling video 
2. Preview video in the test setting before sharing with an audience.
3. Prepare for showing by:
- Checking Equipment.
- Checking Environment.  
 4. Engage the learner.

ü Review concepts and discuss objectives.

ü Prepare and use video study guide.

ü Pause video for questions/discussions.

ü Structure discussions at key points or at the end, give an assignment to reinforce content.

ü Be prepared to respond to student reactions to emotional content (Emotional Content).

In terms of my assignment progress, I am able to do my assignment without any confusion. The only thing is that I have problem in conducting my assignment is that I have problem in managing my time well when doing my assignment as I am also busy doing my other courses' assignments as well. 

As a conclusion, by attending today's class, we were able to understand in detail and enhance our knowledge on 'Audiovisual Technologies'. This type of technology is very important for the future teachers to know about in order to create better quality lesson plans and at the same, to conduct an effective teaching and learning process in the classroom. In order to make things more clear, I would like to share a videos on this specific topic so that those whom are visual learners like me are able to understand this specific topic more better in future.
